The motion of censure that the PSOE agreed with Cs to unseat the already former mayor of the PP Juan Felipe Cano wins
The socialist leader of Ceutí, Sonia Almela, became the new mayor of the municipality this Thursday morning after the motion of censure that the PSOE presented together with the councilor of Cs, María Ángeles Martí, succeeded in snatching the mayor’s office from the hitherto alderman, the popular Juan Felipe Cano. The session, held at the Cultural Center of Ceutí, was attended by a large audience and prominent leaders of the PP, PSOE and Vox.
In 2015, the seven councilors of the PP and the only mayor of Cs agreed to govern in coalition, agreeing that the popular ones would cede the mayor’s office to the orange formation in the last year of the legislature. However, when the time came, Mayor Juan Felipe Cano broke the agreement citing “bad practices” by his former partner. The new coalition now includes 9 of the 17 councilors that make up the Consistory.
During the session, Juan Felipe Cano accused the PSOE of agreeing with someone “whose work is in question due to the appearance of bills of dubious legality.” He also indicated that this matter is in the hands of the Prosecutor’s Office.
For her part, the socialist candidate denounced that during the last three years they have suffered “a real ordeal” and have been “boycotted and vetoed.” In addition, she pointed out that the PP breached the pact stipulated between the mayor and the councilor for Citizens.
Mari Ángeles Martí, from Cs, assured that the insults to her party “have been constant”, and indicated that her party takes the step of voting in favor of the socialist mayor “to move the municipality forward”. In addition, she warned the PSOE that her policy will continue to be central and directed at all the residents of Ceuti, without distinction of political colors.
The councilor of Vox, María Antonio Gil, for her part, accused the mayor of Cs of being “negotiating with the PSOE for the last three years, the same ones that she has been governing in coalition with the PP and the support of Vox.”
