The Slovak Prime Minister, Robert Fico, reappeared this Wednesday for the first time after being hospitalized for the assassination attempt he suffered two weeks ago to affirm that the attacker is a “messenger of evil” arising from the “failed opposition” of Slovakia. “It is evident that he was just a messenger of evil and political hatred that the failed and frustrated opposition in Slovakia has developed to unmanageable proportions,” he said in a 15-minute video posted on his Facebook profile.
“I have no reason to believe that this was an attack by a lone madman,” he said, accusing the media and sectors of civil society and the opposition of trying to downplay the importance of the attack. “If the opposition continues as before, the horror of May 15 will continue and there will be more victims,” said Fico, who will not take legal action against his attacker, Juraj Cintula, whom he has described as an opposition “activist.” .
«I don’t feel any hatred towards the stranger who shot me. “I forgive him,” she said. Fico has assured that for months he has been warning about the possibility of such an attack and that he has even asked his ministers to avoid crowds. “There were no Intelligence warnings, but my 32 years of experience alerted me,” he said.
«Different vision»
Likewise, he has suggested that the attack is related to the “different vision” that it has from the rest of its partners and criticizes the European Union and NATO for trying to assert a “single correct opinion” and the previous Slovak governments for following it in a way uncritical in matters such as the war in Ukraine.
«I reject interference in the internal affairs of other countries or the forced export of democracy to countries that have decided to follow their path. “Slovakia does not have the economic and military tools to impose its interests by force, so we must respect international law,” she said.
“The opposition abuses the way in which large democracies impose a single mandatory opinion on fundamental foreign policy issues and reject the sovereign positions of small countries,” he criticized. In that sense, he has criticized that the attack he suffered did not have the international scope it should have since it was an assassination attempt against a position legitimately elected through the polls.
Regarding his time in the hospital, Fico has acknowledged that he has suffered “a lot of pain and suffering” and although it seems like a “small miracle” that he can return to work in a few weeks, he estimates that if everything goes as planned He will be able to resume his duties as prime minister “at the end of June.”
