According to meteorological data, the hail that fell in Australia recently is the largest in the country’s history, after the Queensland region recorded a grain of up to 16 centimeters in diameter.
On Wednesday, the roofs of shops in the province of New South Wales collapsed, as huge hailstones fell, in a state of shock.
About 400 people were sheltering from the cold inside a mall when water began to leak from the roof, due to the severity of the storm.
And the ground was covered with whiteness in the regions of Australia, as if a snow storm had passed from the place, while the pictures spread on social media platforms.
The Australian authorities said that they had received a large number of calls seeking help, in light of the sudden and severe storm.
The authorities explained that storms are common in this season, and therefore, people should be prepared in order to deal with the matter.
A hailstone is usually described as massive when its diameter is greater than five centimeters, and it is extremely rare because it only forms under specific circumstances.
A hailstone is formed when warm and moist air ascends to the atmosphere, encountering dry and cold air, and then, the raindrops that occurred as a result of the storm freeze and turn into hail.
