Typhoon ‘Pepito’, known as Typhoon ‘Man Yi’has left eight dead after passing through the island of Philippinesas reported by the authorities of the Asian country. The meteorological phenomenon has been described as a ‘super typhoon’ and, after moving away from the archipelago, it has been weakening throughout the weekend.
This new typhoon is the sixth tropical storm that hits the Philippines in just one month. The typhoon has moved with maximum sustained winds of about 110 kilometers per hour and gusts that have reached 135 kilometers per hour. It has left areas especially affected, such as the municipality of Catanduanes, in the east of the Philippines.
The typhoon has left houses, roofs and electricity poles destroyed by the strong winds, leaving residents in the affected areas without electricity. Intense flooding has also been reported, especially in the coastal areas of the country.
A typhoon that destroys everything in its path
A total of 685,000 people have been forced to leave their homes in the northwestern provinces of the country, due to the danger of typhoon ‘Pepito’ where it has been described as “potentially dangerous for life”, as reported by government agencies, according to information collected by the newspaper ‘The Philippines Star’. The Government initially reported that there were no fatalities due to the storm until the new announcement of the eight people who died after the weekend.
The authorities have reported that seven of the eight fatalities recorded so far have died due to a landslide in the town of Ambauito, in Nueva Vizcaya, north of Manila. An eighth death has been added to these victims in Camarines Norte.
«The neighbors here tell us that they still They had not recovered from the last storm and they were hit again by this typhoon,” Roberto Monterola, an emergency official in Catanduanes, told The Associated Press.
Most cyclones and typhoons arise in the Pacific basin between the months of May and October. Storms outside these dates and with greater virulence are becoming more and more common, as also happened with Typhoon Usagi.
