“The Six” .. Best Short Film at “Kipudo for African Cinema”



The Sudanese short film “The Six,” directed by Susanna Mirghani, raised its prize tally to 23 international awards, placing it at the top of the list of the best Arab short films for 2021, and it became one of the most important candidates to compete in the Oscars, after winning prizes from 3 festivals eligible to participate in the Oscars. And his most recent award, which he won two days ago, is the (SUDU) Award for Best Short Film from the Kibodo African Film Festival. Through a video posted on the festival’s Facebook page, director Susanna Mirghani thanked the festival’s management for the award, and said, “We made this film with a Sudanese crew with a score of (99).” %) and Lebanese (1%), and the film industry in Sudan has begun to flourish after decades of ban and neglect.. Her heart is fond of a young man named “Babker”, but her family arranged a marriage for her with the young man “Nader”, a businessman who lives abroad, while her grandmother is the one in charge. In the village, she, too, drew special plans for a precious life. Can this girl choose herself the next path of her life? Al-Sit presents an emotional story from Sudan about women, both at the top and at the bottom of the pyramid of power, shedding light on both ends of the social chains and the changes that modern life imposes on these societies. Among the most important awards that the film and its director won, were the Best Director from the Beirut International Film Festival for Women, the Best Short Film and the Cherman Award from the Zanzibar International Film Festival. Jury for the best emerging filmmaker from the Arab Film Festival in Toronto, the grand prize within the activities of the Tampere Film Festival that qualifies for the Oscars, special mention from Malmö Arab Film Festival in Sweden, best screenplay and special mention from the International Film Festival and Apartment in Spain, and the jury award from the Busan International Festival For short films in Korea, and the Excellence Award for Best Female Filmmaker from the European Festival of Independent Films in France. In its first international screening, within the activities of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France, it won the award presented by the French channel Canal Plus Cinema. The film also received its world premiere at the last session of the Ajyal Film Festival in Doha. “The Set” is written and directed by Susana Mirghani, co-produced by her sister Iman, and co-starring Mohad Mortada, Rabha Muhammad, Muhammad Magdy, and Haram Bashir. Susanna Mirghani is a freelance writer, researcher and filmmaker who sheds light on stories in the Arab world through her work.
