If there is something that characterizes Marwán’s songs, it is their sincerity. For this reason, his latest album, ‘El viejo boxeador’, is an ode to reality and authenticity. The singer-songwriter and poet visits Cieza tonight –23 hours– to present this album full of optimism and improvement. The municipal soccer field La Era will witness the magic that the Madrilenian gives off.
‘The old boxer’ is his fifth studio album. A set of 10 songs that, far from trying to become alienated melodies, seek to reflect reality, the one that with the rise of social networks is usually hidden behind the screens. Unlike his previous works, Marwán puts aside the bitter lack of love and now opts for lively and danceable rhythms that transmit messages of encouragement and improvement. Facing adversity, overcoming potholes and putting problems aside is the philosophy that he tries to convey in songs like ‘The Queen of the Jäger’, ‘Your butterfly effect’, ‘My contradiction’ and ‘We will continue’. ‘The old boxer’ is the song that gives the album its name and that calls into question the true value of life, as if it were a boxing ring. In addition, he writes that his particular way of creating and understanding music will not change in the face of criticism. Proof of this are softer melodies that claim the right to be sad, such as ‘The endless couple’ and ‘You are always there’.
The album was born in the city of Sheffield, in England, together with producer Collin Elliot. The famous Spanish rapper Nach has even collaborated in ‘5 grams of resentment’. The result is a project where there is room for swing, jazz, rock and the chacarera, a popular Argentine dance.
The summer program of Cieza comes to an end this Sunday with a concert by El Canijo de Jerez at the municipal football field La Era, at 11 pm.
