With The Sims 4 which has been around for many years thanks to the constant support of Maxis and Electronic Arts, it is not surprising that at a certain point questions arise about a hypothetical The Sims 5. It turns out, however, that EA has no plans for this at the moment.
In a update posted on the official website, the company stated that instead of focusing on “linear and sequential releases of new chapters”aims to offer players a wide variety of experiences, the core of which will continue to be The Sims 4. This will also include Project Renewhich was previously thought to be The Sims 5, but is now described by EA as a “story-based mobile test”.
When we talk about The Sims as an entertainment platform driven by our community, it’s because we see the future of the franchise as more than just any title. We’re expanding the franchise to better meet the diverse needs of the growing number of Simmers around the world. The Sims will go beyond linear, sequential versions of The Sims and offer people more options than ever before. We are focused on creating a variety of games and experiences that will touch on different categories of the life simulation genre, including more relaxing games, social and collaborative gameplay, narrative mobile games, and continued improvements and modernization of The Sims 4.
In an interview given to the portal Varietyeven the boss of the franchise, Kate Gormanconfirmed that There are no plans to make The Sims 5 and use it to replace The Sims 4 (here is our review). For EA, the priority is to continue to support, improve and expand the current The Sims.
Historically, the franchise started with The Sims 1, then Sims 2, 3, and 4, and they were seen as replacements for previous products. What we’re really working on with our community is this new era of The Sims. We’re not going to be working on replacements for previous projects, we’re just going to be adding to our universe. With that, there’s going to be more ways to experience The Sims across different platforms, different ways to play, transmedia, and a lot of great offerings within this universe. So, absolutely, we continue to support The Sims 4 more than ever.
Gorman also added that maintaining the progress made by users on The Sims 4 is of the utmost importance, rather than having to start all over again.
As we think about the future, we want everyone to continue all those families and generations. Those creations are your progression, your attachment. We don’t want to reset everything from scratch, it’s not so much about what the numbers are in the games. The future of the franchise is more about maintaining progress and really having a continuous experience, and not starting over from scratch.
