Fourteen years after the release of the third installment of the Mission Impossible saga, which chronicles the adventures of agent Ethan Hunt, a group of tourists comes to play stuntmen like Tom Cruise. For 50 euros, they can do it in complete safety. Well harnessed, they will not throw themselves into the void, but will swing 380 meters high on a tower to admire the superb view of the skyscrapers of Chinese Manhattan.
In the film, the action is always set in Shanghai, but in reality, we are 100 km away, in Xitang, a city of canals. It was in November 2005, the whole village was mobilized, most of the inhabitants were extras and paid 36 euros per day. Everyone has fond memories of this shoot, and the film crew left behind some elements of the set. The team stayed two and a half days in Xitang. Even today, people come to visit the city for 12 euros a day, and photograph this little Venice of the east.
