On the same date last year, the basin had 489 cubic hectometres, 52 more than those available in current reserves
The reservoirs of the Segura basin have lost another 10 cubic hectometres in the last week and are at 38.3% of their capacity. This represents a stock of 437 cubic hectometres of the 1,140 hectometres that the basin’s swamps can store, according to data recorded by the Water Commissioner dependent on the Segura Hydrographic Confederation.
On the same date last year, the basin had 489 cubic hectometres. This figure represents a decrease of 52 hm3 in the Segura’s stored reserves.
As for the reservoirs, the Cenajo is the one with the largest amount of stored water, with 184 hm3 (42% of its capacity). It is followed by La Fuensanta, with 79 hm3 (38% of its capacity) and La Pedrera with 75 hm3 (31%). They are the three that store the largest reserves of water.
The CHS highlights that these stocks will guarantee the uses for the current hydrological year, which ends on September 30, so the hydrological system is at the expense of the autumn rains.
The CHS indicates that, in this way, it will be able to analyze the evolution of the contributions and that of the scarcity and drought indicators. “Only from responsible use can proper management be carried out in a basin such as the Segura, in which drought is often a threat,” the basin organization said in a note.
