The Secretary of State for Energy, Sara Aagesenwill be the new third vice president of the Government and minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge in replacement of Teresa Riberawho on December 1 will become vice president and commissioner for the Just Transition and Competition of the new European Commission.
With this appointment, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has opted for the Aagesen technical and continuity profile (Madrid, 1976) who in recent years has negotiated side by side with Ribera in Brussels on iberian mechanism to lower the price of electricity and electricity market reform in the EU or the commitment that was reached at last year’s Climate Summit by which the countries of the world will begin to seek a way out of fossil fuels. He also has a good part of the authorship of the National Integrated Plan for Energy and Climate (PNIEC) which foresees 308,000 million euros in investments until 2030 for triggers renewable deployment and so that 81% of electricity is of green origin.

This is how different sources in the energy and renewables sector spoke about her months ago about the still Secretary of State, which was also the name that was “sounding” within the Ministry itself.
Aagesen has been working closely with Ribera for two decades. Chemical engineer specialized in Environmentin 2022 she joined the Climate Change Office, which two years later the third vice president will begin to direct and, like her, she has been a negotiator for Spain of numerous international agreements on climate change.
When Ribera was first appointed minister in 2018, he added her to his cabinet and she became Secretary of State for Energy in 2020. In recent years, she has had a relevant role in the preparation of the PNIEC and in the design of the new energy regulatory framework. He has a last name of origin of Denmarkhis father’s country.
