Peskov’s comments come at a time when Russian gas supplies to the European Union through the pipeline have fallen to the level of 20 percent of its capacity.
The Russian company, “Gazprom”, said that the reduction in gas supplies through the pipeline was caused by the disruption of maintenance work, as a result of delays in repairing the turbine, which was sent to Canada for repairs and has not yet been returned.
Peksov pointed out that there are maintenance and urgent repairs that must be carried out in the pipeline until the resumption of the supply of gas through it to Europe, but the maintenance work is facing difficulties due to the sanctions imposed against Russia.
For its part, the German company “Siemens Energy” said that it was not able to see the nature of the problems with the turbines, and that it had not received any report from “Gazprom” indicating the existence of damages that need maintenance.
Russia supplies Europe with about 40 percent of its gas needs, and this was the level of supplies before the outbreak of the Ukrainian crisis last February.
In return, the European Union imposed many sanctions on Russia, and presented a plan last July aimed at reducing gas demand from the Union by 15 percent, which was approved.
