Deputy Foreign Minister Pankin: Nord Stream 2 will be used for gasification of the north-west of Russia
Moscow confirms that the infrastructure of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline located in Russia will be used to gasify the regions of the north-west of the country. About it TASS said Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Pankin.
He noted that such a task was developed due to the policy of the European Union, which put Nord Stream 2 in an unequal position in relation to other gas pipelines. “If the German side purely hypothetically decides to commission this gas pipeline, then only one of its lines can be put into operation at this stage,” the diplomat warned.
On August 19, Vladimir Demidov, an international resource and energy market expert, explained to Lenta.ru that there was practically no chance of a full-fledged launch of Nord Stream 2, since this would be a political loss for the European Union. Nevertheless, he added, a forced, short-term launch is possible; for this, an emergency regime will have to be introduced on the territory of the union.
Earlier, the press secretary of the Russian leader, Dmitry Peskov, said that Nord Stream 2 was ready for operation. The Kremlin spokesman also noted that when the gas pipeline is launched, Russia will be able to supply Europe with 27 billion cubic meters of gas.
