Speaking about the meeting with the US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria, Nuland Ryabkov said that “not only a breakthrough, but no progress”. At the same time, he did not rule out freezing the work of the diplomatic missions of Russia and the United States, but Moscow would like to avoid such a scenario.
Ryabkov also said that it was not possible to achieve progress on the functioning of diplomatic missions and problems with issuing visas, but the parties are planning new consultations on this topic and “on some segments of bilateral relations, in addition to visas and the work of foreign missions.” At the same time, the diplomat did not specify exactly which areas could be discussed.
Earlier Ryabkov shared his impressions of a conversation with US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland. According to him, the conversation with the US diplomat turned out to be “extremely frank.” He noted that “the Americans do not listen to our logic and our demands.” At the same time, the conversation was “useful”, the deputy minister added.
US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland flew to Moscow on October 11. On October 12, she met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, diplomats discussed issues of strategic stability and prospects for continuing work in this area.
Following the meeting, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister stressed that Moscow had recalled the unacceptability of the US military presence in Central Asia. He also pointed out that during the talks with Nuland, Russia’s concern was expressed in connection with the new AUKUS alliance (Australia, Great Britain, the United States) in the context of the nuclear non-proliferation regimes.
