On September 29, the Russian Embassy in the United States reacted to Washington’s attempts to blame Russia for what happened on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines.
“Probably, from the height of Capitol Hill you can see better. But in this case, they should also know about the activity of US warships at the site of the explosion of Russian infrastructure just the day before. About flying drones and helicopters there. About previous United States Navy training in the same area [Америки] organization of underwater explosions. Finally, about the promises of President J. Biden to “end” the Nord Stream 2 project, the diplomatic mission said in a message on the Telegram channel.
As noted in the embassy, it is important to understand who benefits from the shutdown of gas pipelines. In addition, the United States was convicted of the fact that, unable to withstand competition with Russia, they decided to “squeeze out” Russia using non-market methods and sanctions.
The diplomatic mission also pointed out the need for a comprehensive and objective study of the circumstances of the unprecedented attacks on Russian pipelines.
The day before, on September 28, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia would convene a meeting of the UN Security Council in connection with the situation around the Nord Stream lines. The diplomat recalled the promise of US President Joe Biden to “end” SP-2.
According to Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the organization, an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council on the issue of incidents at Nord Stream will be held on Friday, September 30, at 22:00 Moscow time. Meanwhile, according to Andrey Klimov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, it is not worth expecting a breakthrough decision from the meeting of the UN Security Council in connection with the situation around the Nord Stream lines, since representatives of the EU states will act at the meeting strictly in accordance with the instructions Washington.
The accident on one of the lines of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline occurred on September 26. A decrease in pressure was recorded in pipe “A” southeast of the Danish island of Bornholm. Later that day, the operator notified that a pressure drop had been recorded on both strings of the Nord Stream pipeline.
The European Commission has begun checking the possible consequences of accidents and their impact on the ecological situation in the region and on maritime navigation.
The Swedish police drew up a report on the crime under the article “gross sabotage” and began an investigation into the circumstances of the gas leak from the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
The Danish Maritime Authority, in turn, has established a no-go zone in the area of the leak from the Nord Stream gas pipeline. To control the situation Ministry of Defence Denmark sent the frigate Absalon, the environmental vessel Gunnar Thorson and helicopters to the area of the leak. They will monitor the water in the area closed due to the state of emergency.
