Kots: The Russian Armed Forces lost the newest attack UAV S-70 “Okhotnik” in the Northern Military District zone
The Russian Armed Forces (AF) lost the latest heavy attack drone S-70 “Okhotnik” in the special military operation (SVO) zone. This was reported by war correspondent Alexander Kots and Russian Telegram channels writing about the conflict with Ukraine.
Earlier, a video appeared on social networks showing the fall of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). “They are reporting from the ground: our newest heavy attack drone, the S-70 Okhotnik, was lost near Konstantinovka. Videos of eyewitnesses say that this is most likely the case – the silhouette of the falling car is very similar to the silhouette of this drone,” Kots wrote.
Presumably, the drone was shot down by the fighter accompanying it
The military correspondent added that, according to preliminary data, the drone was shot down by an air-to-air missile from the lead fighter. “Perhaps there was a disruption in the communication channel, and the S-70 became uncontrollable,” he clarified.
This information was confirmed by the “Two Majors” Telegram channel.
The S-70 left the combat duty zone and was shot down by our accompanying fighter in order to eliminate the risks of the experienced combat vehicle being taken to the enemy
The author of the channel added that during combat testing, previously unidentified vulnerabilities in the drone control system were identified. After they are eliminated, testing will continue.
The Russian Armed Forces used the S-70 UAV for the first time in the Northern Military District zone in June 2023
The S-70 Okhotnik drone made its first flight in 2019. In June 2023, it became known about the first use of a drone against positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Northern Military District zone. It was clarified that the 20-ton device could be used to attack targets in the Sumy region.
Military expert Vasily Dandykin said that the drone, built according to the “flying wing” design, can work in tandem with fifth-generation fighters. The device, capable of carrying several tons of ammunition, reaches speeds of up to 1,400 kilometers per hour, and its service ceiling is 18 kilometers.
