Hokkaido Rensa Satsujin: Ohotsuku ni Kiyufull title: Hokkaido Rensa Satsujin: Ohotsuku ni Kiyu – Tsuioku no Ryuuhyou / Namida no Nipopo Ningyou is one of the first games developed by the master Yuji Horiibest known as the author of the series Dragon Quest, therefore as one of the fathers of the canonization of Japanese role-playing games in the 1980s. It was launched in 1984 under the LOGiN SOFT label for personal computers, then in 1987 it was ported to the NES.
The game has never been released in Japan, but an official remake will arrive soon, which has also been announced translation into English. More precisely, it will be published by G-MODE Corporation on September 12, 2024 on PC and Nintendo Switch in Japan and will support English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese languages. The Nintendo Switch version will also have a physical edition that will cost 8,800 yen.
Hokkaido Rensa Satsujin: Ohotsuku ni Kiyu is the third game in the “Yuji Horii Mystery Trilogy”, a sequel to The Portopia Serial Murder Case and Karuizawa Yuukai Annai. For the curious, there is also a trailer showing the game in action:
The description of the story is particularly schematic: “When the Nipopo doll cries, another corpse appears…
One morning, the lifeless body of a man is found in the waters of Tokyo Bay.
The unidentified body belongs to a man in his 40s.
The scene then shifts to Hokkaido. In Kushiro, Abashiri, Shiretoko, Monbetsu…
The second and third cases are a series of murders concentrated in eastern Hokkaido.”
Guess who will be responsible for solving them?
An exceptional team
