Three roads were still closed to traffic yesterday, and mud accumulates in El Mojón, which makes it difficult for residents to move
Since last day 3, there are points in the Segura basin where it has rained every day; and it will continue to do so in accordance with the forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The Region is experiencing an unusual episode with the storm sweeping a large part of the peninsula, which has made this month of March extremely wet in regards to the southeast. It has been many decades since such a continuous rainy cycle has been recorded in the Region, where sunlight has hardly been seen since the intense haze broke out on the 14th.
The delegate of the Aemet, Juan Esteban Palenzuela, points out that the maximum value of rainfall for the month of March will be exceeded – or very close to it – both in the observatories and stations and at the regional level. The Aemet has recorded continuous rains at a general level since last day 16. The Segura Hydrographic Confederation, for its part, has recorded rainfall in some areas for almost three weeks.
This episode will continue at least until the end of the month, with a hundred percent chance of rain this Saturday and on the 30th. On Sunday there will be a slight respite with less widespread rainfall. Among the municipalities where the greatest accumulation has been registered are Bullas, Moratalla, Águilas, Lorca and Cartagena, which have received between 340 and 200 liters per square meter.
The rain continued yesterday in most parts of the Region. The mud continued to accumulate in the area of El Mojón, in San Pedro del Pinatar, which made it difficult for residents to move around. In addition, the images of the water jumping through the gates of the Cierva reservoir, in the Mula River region, went viral.
The damage caused by the intense rainfall caused the Cartagena-Águilas highway (RM-332) to continue to be closed to traffic, at kilometer point 54, the crossing of the Baños de Mula and the Cuesta de Cedaceros.
Today yellow notice
For today, the Aemet activates yellow warnings for rainfall in the Northwest, Guadalentín Valley, Lorca and Águilas and Vega del Segura regions. In this last area, the clouds could discharge up to 15 liters in an hour, with the western area being the most affected. In the case of the former, the intensity could reach 20 liters in one hour and 60 in 12 hours. The alerts will remain until 9:59 p.m. In the Altiplano the rainfall may be locally intense in the early afternoon, and in the Campo de Cartagena the rains will give a respite in the afternoon, although they will make an appearance the rest of the day.
