The accumulated incidence continues to rise and already reaches 733 infected per 100,000 inhabitants
Health yesterday notified 949 Covid cases corresponding to Saturday in the Region of Murcia, which represents the highest figure recorded in a weekend since last January 23, in the middle of the third wave. The sixth wave thus continues its ascending phase, reaching 732.9 positives per 100,000 inhabitants in fourteen days. As for the seven-day rate, it has practically doubled in the last week, to stand at 494.5 positives per 100,000.
Of the 949 new positives notified, 404 correspond to Murcia, which has an incidence of 848 cases per 100,000 in fourteen days. Meanwhile, in Cartagena, where another 153 infections have been detected, the rate is now close to 1,000 (specifically, 986). Where there are already more than a thousand infected per 100,000 is in La Unión, Jumilla and Caravaca de la Cruz. All this increase in infections has already saturated Primary Care, while in hospitals the occupation by Covid begins to rise, although for now with figures far removed from those registered in previous waves, when the population was not protected with vaccines.
Below average in diagnostic tests
The Region of Murcia is below the national average in diagnostic tests for Covid, according to an analysis carried out by the Europa SYNLAB company based on data published by the Ministry, and collected by Europa Press. Specifically, in the Region of Murcia 1,608.07 tests were carried out per 100,000 inhabitants between December 5 and 15, while the average for Spain reached 2,083 per 100,000. Navarra, Ceuta and Catalonia lead the search for positives, while at the bottom are Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia.
Specifically, in the Region of Murcia, 17,831 PCR and 6,195 antigen tests were carried out during the period analyzed.
On Friday, 223 patients remained hospitalized for coronavirus in the Region of Murcia, which represents an increase of 56% in the last week. 180 of these patients were in the ward, and 43 were in the ICU. Although there is currently no risk of collapse, the truth is that this occupation is beginning to have consequences, such as the reduction in surgical activity at the Reina Sofía and Morales Meseguer.
The effect of vaccination is especially noticeable in mortality, which is “between three and four times lower” than in previous waves, highlights Enrique Bernal, Covid coordinator of the Reina Sofía. For the second consecutive day, Health did not notify any death yesterday. However, in the last week there has been a rebound, with ten deaths compared to four in the previous week.
Miras warns that “decisions will have to be made” if the escalation continues
The president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, warned yesterday that “we are in a very complicated situation.” Although the high vaccination rate has prevented the exponential increase in cases from leading to many more deaths and admissions to the ICU, “far from it” is normal. “If the situation continues, decisions will have to be made,” he stressed. In this sense, López Miras wondered if Pedro Sánchez “is going to propose something” at this week’s Conference of Presidents.
For his part, the mayor of Murcia, José Antonio Serrano, asked López Miras to convene a meeting in which all the mayors of the Region are present, “to coordinate actions.”
