The cleaning work has been removing the mud from some areas since the first hour to return normality to the municipality
The municipality of Los Alcázares was once again subject to heavy rains, although this time there were no serious incidents to be regretted. During the day this Sunday, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) activated in the Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón the red warning for rains and the orange warning for storms.
In just a few hours, Los Alcázares recorded accumulations of more than 130 liters, with heavy and intense rains that caused pockets of water in the southern part of the municipality.
“The emergency services came to help some cars that had problems due to water pockets, but there were no major incidents to be regretted,” explained Police Councilor Pedro José Sánchez.
Since early this morning, the Urbaser municipal cleaning services have been working to remove the accumulated mud in some areas and return normality to the municipality as soon as possible.
As for the educational centers, all of them opened their doors normally today except for the Bienvenido Conejero school, which had to cancel some of its classes as a result of the water that entered one of the buildings. “This decision was made for safety and we are working to restore the situation as soon as possible and that tomorrow classes can be resumed normally,” said the Councilor for Education, Antonio López Campoy.
In the rest of the municipal facilities, such as sports courts, there have been small pockets of water outside, but there are no regrets or complications inside, since anti-flood barriers were used as a precaution.
The beaches of the municipality have suffered the usual damage due to runoff and the conditioning of the same has been carried out since Monday with tasks of cleaning walkways, footbaths, shaded areas, the promenade and litter bins. “Once the sand dries, we will proceed to extend it and re-place the access walkways so that residents and tourists can once again enjoy these spaces,” explained the Councilor for Beaches, María José Aragón.
“The measures to minimize the risk of flooding, such as the works carried out in the La Dorada canal, have helped reduce the damage, but it is a good time to demand that all administrations speed up the rest of the works that are pending. It is also time to ask the competent bodies to act at source so that Los Alcázares stops receiving these extraordinary contributions of water at such critical times, “concluded the mayor of Los Alcázares, Mario Pérez Cervera.
