Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is more out than in ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund after not traveling to London with the rest of the squad.
Lunin has excelled this season since receiving an unexpected opportunity when Thibaut Courtois suffered a long-term injury in August. But he had been a doubt for the final all week.

The Ukrainian, who recently gave up his place in the League to the recovered Courtois, but who kept the gloves in both games of the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich, missed training on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday due to a flu.
The Madrid squad embarked on Thursday for England without Lunin. Marca reported that the goalkeeper, considered a contagion risk, was expected to travel alone on Friday or even on the day of the match. But the likelihood of him actually playing in that scenario was always slim, and he seemed to confirm in an Instagram post Thursday night that he has lost that battle.
“I am very sorry not to be able to prepare for the most important game of the season and the most important game of my life,” Lunin told his 3.3 million followers.
Courtois’ first appearance this season in the Champions League could be the final that gives him his second European title.
