A report prepared by the Chamber of Commerce puts black on white the impact of a Catastrophic DANA which has caused serious damage in the form of flooding of streets, homes and premises; as well as damage to infrastructure and networks of basic services, such as electricity, water, gas and communications.
The 65 most affected locations They are basically located in the regions of L’Horta Sud, La Plana de Utiel-Requena, La Hoya de Buñol, La Ribera Alta, L’Horta Sud, El Camp del Turia and also some municipalities of Ribera Baja and Los Serranos and three neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city of Valencia.
All of them add up to a population of 845,371 inhabitantswhich represents about a third of the census of the province of Valencia.
In the affected municipal areas, including the affected districts in the capital of Turiathere are 54,289 companies – one in every three commercial companies in the province -, 123 business parks and industrial estates; and more than 354,000 workers reside there, 33.5% of the total members.
The report prepared by the Chamber of Commerce notes that the effects of DANA have affected all types of economic activities, from agricultural to industrial and service activities.
The document that analyzes the consequences of the passage of cold drop through the towns of Valencia reveals that, in at least 32 localities affected by the storm, the damage caused can be considered “severe or very large, due to its consequences in the loss of human life, impact on large urbanized areas and the seriousness of the consequences on the housing, infrastructure and services, with a high degree of impact on local economic activity.
The report highlights that between 4,000 and 4,500 premises located on ground floors where economic activity was carried out may have suffered considerable damage. Of these, between 1,600 and 1,800 would correspond to stores or retail commercial establishments greatly affected by the damage.
Furthermore, the consequences of this phenomenon have affected, at least, the functioning of 34 municipal markets and eleven parks and shopping centers.
The DANA ground zerowith the highest number of dead and missing people, logically bear the brunt in terms of the most affected economic activities. According to the data available so far by the Chamber of Commerce, these are Alaquàs, Albal, Aldaia, Alfafar, Algemesí, Benetússer, Catarroja, Llocnou de la Corona, Massanassa, Paiporta, Picanya, Sedaví, Utiel and the neighborhood of La Torre de the city of Valencia.
In these municipalities There has been “flooding of hundreds of premises, warehouses and commercial premises with material damage to facilities, equipment, furniture and vehicles of varying degrees, and deterioration or loss of stock, products and stored merchandise.”
The Alfafar Parc Commercial Park, Sedaví Commercial Park, MN4 and the Bonaire Shopping Center They have been the large commercial facilities most affected, not only by floods but also by looting that has also affected businesses located in urban areas.
Other serious consequences of DANA that has devastated the province of Valencia have been the losses of merchandise and perishable products due to prolonged power outages in many of the affected municipalities.
In addition, flooding has been reported in warehouses and distribution and logistics centersmany of them located in parks and flooded industrial estates, which are “affecting the supply chain”.
