Through a letter, he also asks Adif for an efficient and direct bus service with Murcia, as well as a schedule with the planned actions.
The Local Railway Board was convened yesterday in Lorca to communicate to its members all the information discussed during the meeting last Monday at the Murcia Government Delegation, where the president of the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (Adif) and the mayors met and mayors of the different municipalities affected by the shutdown of the Cercanías service.
“There has been a constructive debate regarding the analysis of the situation and there have been several agreements that have been reached,” said the mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos, referring to the meeting that took place this Wednesday. Thus, he explained that everyone agrees that the railway works are essential after many years of struggle for the arrival of high speed to the municipality. For this reason, “this common goal of both political and social representatives will not be renounced.”
In the same way, there was consensus that, although the works are necessary, an integral cut of the line that connects Murcia with Lorca and Águilas cannot be made. Given this, they propose to Adif the sectioned cut of the line, which would allow the traffic to be paralyzed in sections without actually suppressing the service completely. “We understand that the necessary circumstances can be given so that those specific cuts can be made,” said the first mayor.
Adif insists that the selective interruption of the railway line is not feasible for safety reasons
To this end, the Local Board of the Railroad decided yesterday to send a letter, both to the Secretary of State for Development and to Adif and Renfe, to request that the cuts be punctual and by sections and not general. This is intended to maintain the Cercanías service for as long as possible, as long as it does not pose a danger to users. However, they also recognized that the fact of not completely paralyzing the traffic would cause in return a lengthening of the work deadlines.
For its part, Adif maintains that this possibility is not viable, especially in the sections that present a greater difficulty. “We want them to tell us the technical reasons so that we are aware and even be able to refute them, since there can always be conflicting solutions,” added Mateos Molina.
During the meeting they also talked about the bus service, the main alternative to the stoppage of the line. In this sense, they vindicated its effectiveness, demanding that the schedules be observed and that a direct line Lorca-Murcia be made available to citizens, through Renfe or through agreements with the bus service concession companies so that their benefits are reinforced. respecting, in addition, the price of the train ticket.
The letter will also request a schedule with the planned actions to keep track of the expected deadlines and the pace of the works. On the other hand, «we will request in this letter that representatives of Adif come to Lorca to present the different projects. Last Monday they already promised to come and explain the project that is being tendered for the Lorca-Pulpí section, detailing the steps over the channels of ramblas such as those of Béjar or Torrecilla ».
Likewise, the local councilor announced that in the letter these technicians will be asked to come for the pending sections, which are the railroad crossing the urban area of the city and the Lorca-La Hoya section as it passes through the district of Third. The latter is already underway, through previous works of a geotechnical nature. It is the most advanced with the modification of the project and the construction of a viaduct of more than two kilometers to favor the permeability and the traffic of vehicles, both of residents and of the agri-food companies in the area.
Finally, Diego José Mateos stressed that they will remain attentive to the response while they continue to try to convince Adif that the cut is minimal. «No measure is ruled out and we are going to act according to how events unfold. There is still time to try to improve as much as possible the arrival of the railway infrastructure to the city, “he explained.
