As he answers the call, his youngest granddaughter can be heard babbling. Regina Alcover take advantage of your vacation in Radio Happiness and he is in Boston (USA) visiting his daughter Mia and her daughter. “She is a beautiful baby, she was born in a pandemic and her name is Uma after Uma Thurman”, He tells us on the phone.
About to turn 73, the actress does not stop. Last year she was serious, they operated on her spine, but that did not prevent her from doing her ‘Regina and you’ program from the clinic. Now she will do workshops and assumed the role of narrator in the series of radio soap operas that Radio Nacional has just launched on Saturdays (2:55 pm), where she shares credits with her cousin Gloria María Ureta and other great actors.
For Gloria María, this reconnection with art must be wonderful …
Yes, because years ago she broke away from this. Listening to her will be a beautiful experience, because it will be like listening to my aunt Elvira (Travesí), she has her voice.
What do you think that the genre of the radio soap opera has been resurrected?
I think people need it, just like they need radio, because things on television are like flashes. I don’t even see her anymore, on the other hand the radio has cured me of many things.
How was the recording process?
Each one recorded on their own, without any contact. The editor’s role was paramount. When they fixed (my spine), we did it. I told them: “Guys, I have to stop” because I couldn’t sit for long. They had holy patience with me.
Do you think that radio has taken a new momentum with the pandemic?
I think so. Maria Cristina Ribal he wrote the script for the radio soap opera and when they called me for the project I said ‘what a nice possibility’, because people need to re-imagine. This genre has a magic with tips and positives which is what we need right now.
You have also become very active in the networks …
Yes, I do not stop making my videos and I have my followers on Facebook. People are curious, they like to know what you do and they treat me with affection. The truth is that I owe them part of my recovery and the fact that I feel useful. As I communicate with people, I followed a course in family and couples therapy to know what to answer, to be a kind of filter, a facilitator for people. It has been very nice.
Do you think the arts will recover after this pandemic?
I think so. Everyone has resources and possibilities to do things and people will always need art, they just have to find the perfect formula. But I decided not to do theater anymore when he died Osvaldo, I could no longer be on stage without him. So, I started doing theater workshops.
Where do you find time?
You have to recycle and while you have strength … A few days after my operation, from the clinic I took up the radio. How do I heal? I asked, then working. The radio and my granddaughter Uma were my cure. What I experienced was very strong. I needed that help, not with the desire to victimize myself, but to be a crony with those who were also having a hard time at the time.
Like Osvaldo Cattone …
Exactly, we agree. I was in one clinic, he was in another. I would talk to him, he would pick him up and Osvaldo would pick me up, he was a chain of love while each one was sick. We bond much more.
Osvaldo told me: ‘How ugly is getting old, right? And I answered: “Yes.” In the first operation, they put three nails in my spine and a non-vinyl record. Gian Marco told me that they had put a layman on my back. It was one of the most horrible experiences of my life. But the people, the radio, my children, my resilience, my energy, everything helped me. And we only have good news on the show. Our country continues to be a blessed place, you just have to look at it with a broader spectrum. The whole world is fatal with the pandemic, the human being is in constant risk and what we have to do is ease the way for people. And for me, it is not relieved by putting up obstacles, complaining about the Government, about everything. Let things flow, everything will happen. There is no evil that lasts a hundred years or a body that resists it.
