The new general secretary of the Andalusian PSOE, María Jesús Montero, premiered the position with an order and a desire. The first was to advance the eight provincial congresses and so it will be, setting for the last weekend of March and April 1; The second was to avoid internal noise and bet on unique lists to avoid primary. The latter seems more complicated, and in that line points the step taken on Saturday by the socialist parliamentary spokesman, Angels Férriz, who has advanced in the Jiennense PSOE Committee that will aspire to lead the party after announcing the current general secretary, Francisco Reyes, Francisco Reyes, that leaves it.
This opens the door to the possibility of primaries, since it was assumed that Reyes was going to sponsor a candidacy, with the mayor of Arjona, Juan Latorre, as the best placed to aspire to take his witness. Férriz has cleared the runrun who accompanied her the last days about whether she was going to fight for leadership in Jaén, which has done just in the week in which she has premiered in Parliament assuming her face to face with Juan Manuel Moreno in the control session after the resignation of Juan Espadas.
The decision of Angeles Férriz, accustomed to swimming against the countercurrent, means throwing a stone in the so far calm waters of the Jiennense PSOE, controlled by Reyes since 2010 and the most powerful group next to that of Seville. In fact, they are the only provinces in which the Socialists maintain the Provincial Council. But if in Seville it is taken for granted that Javier Fernández will repeat as general secretary without opposition, the question is on his way to becoming more turbulent in Jaén.
Serrano and Montero reorganization
The tensions in several provinces, with several provincial secretaries very answered, have a very particular case in Jaén, a territory in which the strong man for María Jesús Montero will be Juanfran Serrano, national deputy and attached to the Federal PSOE Organization Secretariat. Before the Vice President and Minister of Finance launched to relieve swords, the Jiennense PSOE came to endorse him in December as possible Andalusian secretary.
Waiting to know what names integrate the future executive of Montero and how the parliamentary group reorganizes, the ferrity movement would be understood as a key that it does not seem to be part of the Pretorian Guard of the new general secretary. Of course, if it achieves its objective and reaches the leadership of the Jiennenses socialists, it would have to leave the spokesman in Parliament, and it is not a tradition in the PSOE that this role is played by a provincial secretary even though nothing prevents it in the statutes .
Provincial movements
The question is now how Montero handles the situation in the provinces, if it lets or if it moves a card so that unique lists are built. Férriz’s decision, in fact, clashes with the desire not only of Montero but also Francisco Reyes himself, who aspired to a quiet relay, without primary and piloted by him, no matter how much the official discourse is always that every militant You have the right to appear.
While knowing whether Férriz will have a contritor or not, the truth is that Jaén’s situation is not unique. For now, the general secretaries of Almería, Cádiz, Córdoba, Huelva and Seville have announced – publicly or internally – their intention to opt for re -election, despite the fact that all but Sevillian have internal answer. The waters in Granada also go down (where the current headquarters, José training, has already announced his goodbye) and in Malaga, where Daniel Pérez has not yet pronounced formally.
