He denounces the withdrawal of agents in the mountains despite the risk of fire and the Ministry says that there is a specific diversion of troops to the Mar Menor
The municipal policy secretary of the Socialist Association of the PSOE Cartagena Oeste and president of the Perín Neighborhood Council, Isabel María Andreu, denounced yesterday that the Autonomous Community “has left the mountains of the Cartagena coastline without environmental protection, having withdrawn the protection brigade for the control and surveillance of the Protected Natural Area of Sierra de La Muela, Cabo Tiñoso and Roldán ».
Andreu stated that the Ministry of the Environment has made this decision “at the time of year with the greatest risk of fire, with thermal stress resulting in high probability of fires.” And he demanded “that the regional government of the PP stop abandoning the spaces with the greatest environmental and landscape value in Cartagena.”
The Socialists defended that, “as in other protected areas, the mountains of the Cartagena coastline immediately need a permanent endowment of environmental equipment, a brigade of agents and the public resources necessary to conserve one of the greatest ecological values region of”.
In addition, in Andreu’s opinion, the Ministry “has shown to date its null interest in the protection and conservation of the environment as an asset in the revitalization and cohesion of the territory” in the western zone.
Sources from the Ministry explained that it has had to refer environmental agents to the Mar Menor to deal with the crisis caused by the death of thousands of fish and crustaceans since Monday of last week. But he affirmed that there are sufficient human and material resources to guarantee the prevention of fires and the response to them.
Enough with the Infomur Plan
«Only the current conditions of priority attention to the Mar Menor have produced an effect of greater attention to this problem by all the environmental agents available in the Cartagena-Mar Menor region. The necessary operational movements have been produced for agents of the Mazarrón Comarca Headquarters to attend to any incident that may occur in matters of forest fire emergencies “, they indicated in the regional government.
They added that “the Infomur Plan integrates resources from different administrations”, so that the Cartagena fire stations also belong to the fire fighting device in that municipality. They remarked that “it is unfeasible to have specific equipment for each of the protected natural areas and the mountains of the Region.”
