On Saturday, the new Japanese Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba, visited the Noto Peninsula in central Japan, which was severely affected by the earthquake that occurred on January 1 and heavy rains in September.
This is the first time the prime minister has visited the peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture since he took office on Tuesday.
Ishiba inspected the city of Wajima, where floods washed away homes and submerged temporary housing units built for those affected by the New Year’s earthquake.
Hear the challenges directly from disaster victims around the Asaichi-dori morning market area in Wajima. The shopping area was badly damaged by a massive fire in the earthquake.
The government plans to take a decision in mid-October on additional spending from its reserves to provide more aid to areas affected by disasters.
