The director of the festival makes a “very positive” assessment of the event, which has filled the Artillery Barracks for three nights
The prickly pear from the University of Azuay, from Ecuador, won the first prize of the Barrio del Carmen International Prickly Pear Contest, which this year has celebrated its twenty-sixth edition. For its part, the University of Baja California, from the Mexican city of Tijuana, won second place in the festival, which has brought together more than three hundred people from around the world in the city of Murcia.
The final gala, which was held last Saturday night at the Artillery Barracks, was very well received by the public, like the rest of the days of the festival. “We have filled the capacity all three nights, something that had not happened in the history of the contest,” said the director of the event, Carlos Molina, who made a “very positive” balance, despite the death of one of the members of the Tuna Veterana Universidade Portucalense de Porto during its time in Murcia, which shocked the Portuguese group and made the group of more than twenty musicians decide to advance their return to the neighboring country and not attend the final.

In short, the director of the contest valued the atmosphere as “fantastic” and made it clear that “it has been noticed that people really wanted tuna, to go out, celebrate and consume culture. We are satisfied because we have put our grain of sand in the festivities of the Carmen neighborhood and we have managed to make people wait for the celebration of the contest to arrive », he concluded.
