The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) of State of Mexico presented a challenge against allocation of deputies of proportional representation in the Local Congress.
It was through a press release that the local PRI announced its filing before the Electoral Court of the State of Mexico where it was established that the distribution approved by the Electoral Institute of the State of Mexico (IEEM) incurs excessive and illegal over-representation of the parties that make up the official coalition in the entity, Let’s Keep Making History made up of Morena, the Labor Party and the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico.
“The objective of said overrepresentation for the ruling party is to guarantee Morena and its allies control of the governing bodies of Congress, the Board of Directors and the Political Coordination Board, as well as the distribution of commissions and various directorates of the Legislative Branch. local,” said the PRI.
Likewise, the party considered unacceptable that having obtained 17.2% of the voteits representation in Congress is 9 deputies. While the PVEM has a total of 10 seats in the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies when it only obtained 8.8%.
Likewise, it was emphasized that opposition parties are underrepresented with a sum of 13.8 percentage points, below the proportion of votes they obtained. The PRI argued that it is essential that each vote be authentic, that is, that it reflects the true intention of the voter without external coercion or fraud that could distort the electoral result.
“We will challenge the assignment of multi-member deputies. The PRI, with 17.2% of the votes, should be the 2nd force in the Local Congress. We will not allow the PVEM, with 8.8%, to artificially occupy this position. We will defend the will of the citizens as a counterweight,” wrote the official PRI account in the State of Mexico on X (formerly Twitter).
Among the fundamental arguments in the challenge, it was highlighted that the principle of authenticity of the vote is a fundamental pillar of democracy that guarantees the legitimacy of the electoral processes and the representativeness of the rulers. Therefore, with this distribution of seats, the will of the citizen is violated and the principle of authenticity of the vote is not fully complied with.
