The president of Banco Sabadell, Josep Oliu, will meet this afternoon with the president of the Popular Party (PP), Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to explain the transfer of the entity’s headquarters to Catalonia, according to market sources. The purpose of the meeting would be obtain the approval of the president of the PP and thus obtain their support.
Before taking the step, Sabadell met with representatives from all political spheres to tell you the reasons for your decision. Among them, the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, who has received from Oliu the guarantee that the entity’s commitment to the Valencian Community and its economic fabric “remains intact”, although its headquarters returns to Catalonia.
“The directors of the entity have guaranteed that neither the office network nor the jobs in the Community are in any way affected by this decision,” the Valencian Government points out.
In statements collected by EfeMazón commented this Wednesday that believes that Sabadell’s departure is “a gesture” related to the BBVA takeover bid and has described the transfer of the Sabadell headquarters as “bad news” and has said that it occurs “in a context of a situation of weakness and a takeover bid at the moment.”
According to the sources consulted by this newspaper, the news of the transfer of the headquarters to Catalonia, which had already been discussed in internal conversations at the bank for months, had to be officially communicated later, probably in the presentation of annual results on the agenda for on February 7th. However, the leak of the news broke this schedule.
