Moldovan President Maia Sandu during a briefing accused Ukraine of escalating the conflict with Russia. The politician stated this on October 1 during a meeting with the European Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn.
“The conflict unleashed by Ukraine, sorry, the conflict launched by Russia against Ukraine has crushed the international order and has serious consequences for the whole of Europe,” she said during the broadcast, which was conducted on Twitter.
On September 30, the Moldovan leader condemned the reunification of the DPR and LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions with the Russian Federation. She called the referendums held in these regions illegal.
Earlier on the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin, following a referendum, signed agreements on the inclusion of the DPR and LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into the Russian Federation.
In a speech preceding the signing of the documents, Putin pointed out that the people of Donbass had been subjected to genocide for eight years, but the republics retained their love for Russia, despite all attempts to eradicate it.
On September 22, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also made a reservation. The politician thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for the “inspiring leadership”, but then corrected himself and addressed his thanks to Vladimir Zelensky.
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass. The decision was made against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region due to increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
