The so-called ‘tax’ on energy companies has become a national debate that transcends the affected companies themselves. Barely 24 hours after Junts made it clear that, at this time, it will not vote on this tax in its new permanent version, the president of Aragón has distanced himself with a threat to the Government.
The Aragonese Executive will appeal the special tax on energy companies in court and before the Competition authorities if the Government of Spain consolidates it and it becomes a permanent tax, the head of the regional government, Jorge Azcón, announced this Wednesday during his visit to the Formigal station (Huesca).
At a press conference, Azcón expressed his “true concern” about the possibility that the central Executive finds support in the Congress of Deputies to definitively implement this tax because it will increase energy costs and make the reindustrialization of Aragon difficult.
«If the tax that the Government wants to approve, it actually approves it and allows there to be autonomous communities like the Basque Country that can offset this tax and, therefore, establish an element of fiscal distortion in the competitiveness between the territories, in Aragon we are going to defend ourselves with all the resources that we have at our disposal, from judicial to competition courts,” has warned.
In this way, the president of Aragon, who has recently approved a tax against renewables in his region, enters this fight with the aim of defending the interests of his community, although it contradicts the taxes that his government has imposed. .
