The Presidency of Chile has reported the existence of a complaint dated September 6 against the president Gabriel Boric for alleged crimes of sexual harassment and dissemination of images committed ten years ago, when the current president was doing an internship in Punta Arenas.
The complaint was filed at the Magallanes Regional Prosecutor’s Office, in the extreme south of Chile, where Boric is from. The head of the Public Ministry of the area, Cristián Crisosto, has confirmed that “there is a criminal case related to the facts indicated.” A special team from the Prosecutor’s Office is now in charge of the investigation.
Jonatan Valenzuela Saldíaslawyer for the Chilean president, explained in a statement released by the Presidency this Monday night that Boric met the complainant in 2023, with whom “he never had an emotional relationship or friendship” and therefore “categorically rejects and denies the complaint.”
On the contrary, Valenzuela Saldías states that between July 2013 and July 2014 Boric “was a victim of systematic harassment” via email “from an adult woman” who met him during the internship.
Thus, the lawyer maintains that the complainant sent Boric until 25 emails from different email addresses, “including in one of them the unsolicited and unconsensual sending of explicit images.”
“Ten years later, the sender of the emails filed a complaint without any basis against the already president Gabriel Boric on September 6, 2024,” he explains. the defense of the Chilean presidentwho adds that since July 2014 there has not been any kind of communication between him and the complainant.
Valenzuela Saldías has reported that Boric has already delivered to the Prosecutor’s Office all the emails sent by the woman and the rest of the information that has been requested to clarify the facts.
