Coral Gables, Florida (VIP-WIRE)
“My friend, Sheila, has a bad past, which is financing her present and future”… La Pimpi.-“Sheila has such a big mouth that she needs two boyfriends to kiss”… La Pimpi.
There will be no more parties.- As is logical, all the presentations, projected with such enthusiasm, for “93 Years of Age, 75 in Journalism and 62 in Baseball” have been canceled, since the book will not circulate due to regrettable errors.
The presentations were going to be at the International Book Fairs, in Guadalajara and at Mami; and in hotel rooms in New York, Los Angeles, Orlando, Culiacán, Hermosillo, Maracaibo and Caracas… I’m sorry. But it is fair. Justice is nothing more than that, justice.
No-Hit Pitchers Defeated.- Seeing his World Series-winning team is every pitcher’s logical dream. And number two, throw no-hitters. Now, how about pitching nine innings without allowing hits and coming out defeated?!
It was what happened to Ken Johnson, when on April 23, 1964, he was pitching for the Colt 45s, in Houston against his former team, the Reds, with Pete Rose, Frank Róbinson and company.
They were tied at scoreless in the ninth inning, when Rose reached second base on an error on Johnson’s throw to first; Rose advanced to third on one out from second to first.
Then, Vada Pinson grounded out for second, which Nelly Fox couldn’t catch, so Rose scored. Board 1-0 in favor of the Reds.
In the bottom of the ninth, Joe Nuxhall drew the scoreless against the Colt, making Johnson a loser, even though he pitched no-hit.
The Colts shot five hits, so five stayed on base.
Similar cases.- In 1967, Steve Barber and Stu Miller of the Orioles pitched a combined no-hitter but lost 2-1 to the Detroit Tigers.
And in 1990, the Yankees’ Andy Hawkins went eight innings without a hit (his team was away) and lost 4-0 to the White Sox.
The three-quarters of a century of Saer.- Alfonso Saer is a Lebanese product, but a native of Barquisimeto, a star narrator, historical journalist. Voice of the Cardinals of Lara and cycling. When he was born, on a day like today, 75 years ago, there were 13 days left before I started as a reporter for Cadena Capriles. Congratulations Alfonso, and to your health I’ll take one, maybe two, but never more than three. We will be centenarians, concañero of the soul!…
Thanks to life that has given me so much, even a reader like you.
