The National Prado Museum will resume this Saturday, February 1, the ‘El Prado at night’ initiative, a proposal based on which It will be open for free on the nights of the first Saturday of each month.from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and which will allow access to its temporary exhibitions.
On this occasion, the ‘Shaking hands’ exhibitions will remain open. Sculpture and color in the Golden Age’ and ‘Sigmar Polke. Affinities revealed’, in the Jerónimos building, and room 49 that will house the Risen Christ by the artist Giulio Clovio during the month of February, as reported by the museum itself.
The night opening will provide the opportunity to discover some of the technological developments that Samsung has developed in collaboration with the art gallery, and to pose in the ‘photocall’ designed for the occasion.
The exhibitions
Clovio’s Christ follows a sculptural model of Michelangeloconstituting a “singular piece” that was intended for private worship. This piece has been donated to the art gallery by American Friends, thanks to the work of patron Pilar Conde Gutiérrez del Álamo.
The exhibition ‘Shaking hands. Sculpture and color in the Golden Age’ “claims the importance of polychrome sculpture for a comprehensive understanding of Spanish art” and shows visitors for the first time five relevant works acquired by the Prado: ‘Good and Bad Thief’, by Alonso Berruguete; ‘Saint John the Baptist’, by Juan de Mesa; and ‘Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus’, belonging to a late medieval Castilian Descent.
In turn, ‘Sigmar Polke. Affinities revealed’ allows you to discover the work of one of the most influential artists of contemporary European art and observe his “fascinating dialogue with the Spanish pictorial tradition, represented at its best by Francisco de Goya«.
Furthermore, the complete opening of the ground floor of the Villanueva building offers a tour from Romanesque and Gothic painting, through the Renaissanceuntil the 19th century, when you can see works by authors such as Bosch, Van der Weyden, Sofonisba Anguissola, Fran Angelico, Patinir, Madrazo, Angelica Kauffmann, Aurelia Navarro, María Roësset, Fortuny and Goya.
Radio 3 will energize the visit with music with María Taosa, José Manuel Sebastián and Nacho Patillas, ‘djs’ of the station, and Nacho Patillas, ‘dj’ in the Sala de las Musas, where you can enjoy the Café Prado service and the store in the hall of Jerónimos.
