The popular ones will take a motion to Congress this week on the deflation of personal income tax and the reduction of VAT
After fifteen days of tax battle between the Government and the opposition, which began on the regional front with the tax cuts in Andalusia and which precipitated the announcement of a tax reform by the Minister of Finance, the week that the dispute begins promises continue. The PP has registered a motion in the Congress of Deputies that will be voted on this Thursday and that includes the proposal for the deflation of personal income tax and the reduction of VAT on food and basic hygiene products, in addition to the extension of the VAT cut on electricity and gas beyond December 31. The PP and the Government will have the opportunity to measure what support they have in tax matters.
During the weekend, the conflict has not abated. From Seville, this Sunday, the general coordinator of the PP, Elías Bendodo, opposed the two models that represent his party and the Government: «The PP lowers taxes; the PSOE raises them». Bendodo influenced, like his leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, in an interview with this newspaper, in the division that he observes in the PSOE: “Socialism is rebelling against sanchismo.” He attributed to the socialist barons that they are agreeing with the PP when they lower taxes, as the Valencian president, Ximo Puig, did last Tuesday.
He also denounced that the government’s fiscal plan is an “attack on the country’s middle classes” because, according to his analysis, they are left out of the Executive’s tax cuts. And the PP attributes it to the fact that “the Government has become podemized” and that Sánchez “is looking for votes on the left by radicalizing the message”, being “more podemita than Podemos”. “From the PP we hope that the PSOE will return. The PSOE does not exist, Sánchez exists. The sanchismo is getting socialism to rebel, ”Bendodo threaded.
The executive defends
The spokeswoman for the Executive, Isabel Rodríguez, defended the fiscal plan announced on Thursday by Minister María Jesús Montero and claimed that it is inspired by “social justice”. He also conveyed his own contrast between the government model, focused on “strengthening the Welfare State”, in his words, with the popular one, that of Feijóo, which is “the same” as that of his predecessor: “Feijóo gets side of banks and energy companies preventing a tax on windfall profits, or voting against it. Just like Rajoy, that what he did was give away public money to banks instead of protecting evicted families».
The Andalusian president, Juanma Moreno, returned to argue this Sunday his tax cuts, because with them he fulfills his electoral program; he described the announcement of the new tax on wealth as irresponsible since he assured that it has generated great uncertainty; and he reiterated his warning that he “is going to give the whole battle” to defend Andalusia’s fiscal autonomy. “For the first time in decades we are leading a national discussion,” Moreno congratulated himself on Andalusia and its adopted measures.
