“We have a Government that says it is coming to regenerate the media and what is coming is to control the public entity of Spanish television. “That is censorship and control of public media.” This has been the first assessment that the PP has made, led by its spokesperson in Congress, Miguel Telladoafter the Government announces that it will change the RTVE law by decree to end the blockade in the election of the Board of Directors.
The spokesperson has not shown surprise at the PSOE’s maneuver to change the majorities so as not to depend on the PP. “Taking into account the Government’s policy regarding the takeover of institutions, everything seems to indicate that they are going for one more and that what they want is absolute control of RTVE through that decree. “The fact that they want to elect 11 councilors from Congress and four from the Senate does not seem like a very good start.”
For the popular leader, this decision “does not look good” and seems to indicate that the intention of Pedro Sanchez is “absolute control of RTVE in case what they had until now was not enough.” Tellado has not shown surprise either given the string of precedents.
“The reality is that Sánchez has tried to occupy all the institutions of the State and put them at the service of your party and your person: INE, CIS, RTVE, EFE, TC, State Attorney’s Office and Attorney’s Office, Post Office, Congress, Bank of Spain, State Council, Court of Accounts, CNI, Renfe, Aena, Ombudsman, CNMV, CNMC… and could continue,” said Tellado, who has warned the Government that “They are not going to have the collaboration of the PP” for this.
Precisely, this morning the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóohas accused Sánchez of having ccontrolled the institutions by suspecting that the cases of corruption investigated by the courts in his Government and personal environment would come to light. “A Government cannot dedicate itself to undermining democratic controls. We have experienced too many episodes these years in which it became clear that the Government was hindered first by the judiciary, then by the media and of course by the opposition. And now we know that it is not I was looking for something else that impunity because I knew that sooner or later everything was going to start to come to light.
