The municipal group asks the City Council to launch a subsidy to the social entities that collaborate in the district
The Popular Municipal Group proposed this Wednesday that the Murcia City Council immediately enable an extraordinary line of aid to meet the needs of the residents of Javalí Viejo, punished by the torrent of water last Monday, when 41 liters were registered in just 10 minutes.
This was stated this Wednesday morning in Javalí Viejo by the spokesperson for the PP in Murcia, Rebeca Pérez, and councilor Pilar Torres. Both requested an “urgent and extraordinary” item to face the extreme situation that exists in the district due to the numerous damages caused by the torrential rains.
The Popular Group claims the implementation of this measure to help residents return to normality as soon as possible and have municipal coverage to deal with this difficult situation.
“The main purpose of this aid is that the neighbors have direct economic support to acquire the furniture, appliances and other basic items that they lost as a result of the downpour,” explained Rebeca Pérez.
Along the same lines, the PP councilors defended that the City Council grant an extraordinary subsidy to social entities so that they have reinforcement in the work they are providing from the first moment to the most needy families.
The PP supports the Caritas campaign in Javalí Viejo
The PP has encouraged citizens to collaborate with the campaign being developed by Cáritas Diocesana in the cultural center of Javalí Viejo to collect basic necessities to distribute among those most affected by the catastrophe.
In this regard, Pilar Torres pointed out that «extreme situations require extraordinary measures and the City Council must be fully involved in the recovery of Javalí Viejo. We must offer the residents all existing municipal tools.
The PP recalls that it granted an extraordinary grant of 750,000 euros to Cáritas Diocesana, the Red Cross and the Segura Food Bank to meet the needs of the most vulnerable families due to the social crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic. “However, currently the social entities have not received any additional help from the City Council,” they assured.
For her part, Rebeca Pérez stated that “Javalí Viejo needs all our support and effort. All help is welcome, but we cannot trust everything to citizen solidarity. Administrations have a duty to get involved and stand by those most in need.
In addition, Rebeca Pérez requested “the urgent convocation of the Board of Spokespersons so that all municipal groups know first-hand the work that the City Council is developing in Javalí Viejo. Crises must be faced from the agreement, consensus and unity of action.
