The PP and the ghost of ETA: the politics of forgetfulness

This Sunday, October 20, marks 13 years since we defeated the last terrorist group in Europe in Spain. After more than 50 years of history of blood, pain and death, harassment and persecution, what was a dream became a celebrated reality: the end of ETA. Then his death certificate would arrive, with his dissolution.

ETA is over, but its victims are still present: those who were murdered, those injured, and those who are chronic patients of pain in these times of peace, the victims of the violence of persecution, who are still very present, especially in Euskadi. All these victims deserve a dignified memory policy that – in addition to the rights to truth, justice and reparation – demands unanimous political and institutional recognition of their essential role in the end of ETA. A recognition that goes beyond silences and protocol acts, highlighting the memory of their suffering and the injustice of the damage suffered.
