The Portuguese Guilherme Costa has been proclaimed winner of the 11th Ciudad del Puerto Regatta – Optimist Excellence Cup Trophywhich today ended in the waters of the Bay of Cádiz with the celebration of one last test. The Portuguese sailor has been crowned the overall winner and winner of his category, Sub 13, while the Andalusian and RCMT Punta Umbría sailor Juan Soler has taken the runner-up position and has won in Sub 16.
The regatta has been resolved with only two testsone held on the opening day and the other on the closing day. The wind blew strongly enough on the first day, but the Race Committee only managed to complete one race in each of the two groups. On the second day, the absence of wind was total in the waters of the Port, and the 170 participants stayed on land. On the final day, in the morning a first test was completed with off-shore wind, which then disappeared. The arrival of the south wind took a long time and did not allow more tasks to be completed. The Andalusian regatta, third event of the Optimist Excellence Cup circuit, has left the organization and participants wanting more.
The Portuguese sailor Guilherme Costa He won with a fifth on the first day and a second today, compared to a seventh and a first for the Andalusian Juan Soler. Soler’s victory has allowed him to break the tie with Nicolás Bastard from the Balearic Islands, third overall and runner-up under 16 men.
The Balearic Islands have qualified at the gates of the absolute podium Maria de Lluc Bestardwho was one point off the podium by scoring an eighth on the first day and a first on the final day. The differences remain close at the bottom, with one more point for the Portuguese Artur Bento and the Torrevieja sailor Izan Rogel, tied for fifth and sixth place overall, and runner-up and third Sub 13, respectively. Just one point away from seventh place overall, CN Los Nietos de Cartagena sailor Dani Martínez has climbed to third place on the Men’s Under 16 podium.
In the Under 16 female category, the Mallorcan Maria de Lluc Bestard, from RCN Palma, is accompanied in the positions of honor by Nerea García-Faria (CV Port Andratx) and the CN El Balís sailor Giulia Sandri Jordi.
The U13 female podium is led by Alexandra Wangliu from the Jávea CN, followed by the Balearic Mary-Anne Osha and the Catalan Alexia Sotomayor.
The regatta’s record is completed by Arturo Chumilla from Torrevieja and Isabella Tierno, from CN El Balís, Under 11 champions.
The trophy presentation took place in the new facilities of the CN Puerto Sherry on the asphalt beach of the marina, in an event that was attended by the president of the CN Puerto Sherry, Valle de la Riva; the Sports Councilor of the El Puerto de Santa María City Council and Andalusian parliamentarian, José Ignacio González Nieto, and the president of the Spanish Association of the International Optimist class (AECIO), Joaquín Valero. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a snack with chocolate and roscón de Reyes.
