For the first time in Russia, sales of smartwatches outstripped sales of fitness trackers. About it informs newspaper “Vedomosti”.
The publication refers to the report “M.Video-Eldorado” for the first half of 2021. According to the company, since the second half of 2020, sales of smartwatches and fitness bracelets have leveled off, and since the beginning of 2021 there has been a turning point. In total, 2.5 million devices from the segment of wearable devices were sold in Russia for the specified period, amounting to about 22.5 billion rubles. 55 percent came from smartwatches, 45 percent from fitness trackers.
According to the retailer’s representatives, watches for children have become very popular. “About 10 percent of the total volume of the segment fell on children’s watches, which help parents track the location of the child and stay in touch with him,” the company said.
Apple remains the leader in this segment, with its 40mm Watch Series SE becoming the bestseller on the market. Next on the list are the flagship Apple Watch Series 6 with a 44mm case and 44mm Watch Series SE. The top 5 also includes the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 and Apple Watch Series 6 with a 40mm case.
In the ranking of fitness trackers, the leadership is kept by the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5. The second and third positions are occupied by Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 4 and Honor Band 4. “In the category of wearable devices, Russians are increasingly investing in more functional devices – smart watches”, – noted Nikita Tikhvinsky, director of the Digital Technology direction of the M.Video-Eldorado group.
According to MTS, sales of fitness trackers began to decline for the first time. In the first half of 2021, Russians bought 4 percent fewer smart bracelets than in January-June 2020.
