The rise in the price of raw materials forced an increase in municipal financing for the works
The third time was the charm. Finally, the proposal for the award of the construction works for the pedestrian and cycle-tourism connection of the urban center of Molina de Segura with the orchard and the Northwest Greenway has gone ahead. The successful bidder is ACSA Obras e Infraestructuras SA, and the planned investment amounts to 12,855,169 euros.
“It’s a big company. The machines will start working in September”, says the mayor, Eliseo García. This project is part of the Strategy for Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Molina 2020 Avanza Contigo, co-financed 80% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Pluriregional Operational Program of Spain 2014-2020.
The project for the pedestrian connection of the urban area with the Segura River, through the construction of a walkway from Huerto Fayrén to the La Ermita neighborhood, had been declared deserted on two occasions by the Governing Board “because the companies that might be interested considered that it was not profitable to carry it out due to the rising cost of raw materials, particularly steel”, explained the first mayor.
The new infrastructure will connect the urban area with the route of the Vía Verde del Noroeste and the Segura riverbed
For this reason, the Plenary approved an extraordinary credit to increase the allocation of European funds, given that the construction of said pedestrian walkway requires an extraordinary contribution of 727,000 euros from the municipal budget, said the councilor. «The tender budget increased from the 2.5 million initially planned to the 3.2 million euros that were subsequently allocated».
