The Carthagineses and Romanos festivities and a sporting event, the first Spanish Sports Water Games, have left hotels with an occupancy rate of over 80% this weekend, according to figures provided by various businessmen in the sector. That percentage will be maintained throughout this week and the weekend, for the final stretch of the sports competition, which is based in Cartagena, San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier and Los Alcázares.
As an example, the Los Habaneros hotel was last Saturday and Sunday at 88% occupancy, according to the manager, Bartolomé Vera. In a similar percentage were the Alfonso XIII and the Carlos III, according to the director of both, Juan Carlos García.
Only thanks to the Water Games, which conclude on October 2, the accommodation in the city, La Manga and Cabos de Palos will register 7,500 overnight stays, of the 10,500 that will be in the total of municipalities that host the competitions.

Between Cartagena, Cabo de Palos and La Manga, the Spanish championships of motor boating, swimming, fly sky, triathlon, surfing and water skiing will be held in Cabo de Palos, in the port of Cartagena and in the Club Náutico Dos Mares de The sleeve. This event brings more than 4,000 athletes to the city and the rest of the Mar Menor.
The sporting events held throughout this year are leaving good profits in the sector. From the Association of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation of Cartagena and its Region they had always demanded the organization of appointments of these characteristics, which benefit the entire city.
In this sense, the mayor, Noelia Arroyo, explained that the tourism and sports binomial continues to leave successes in the municipality. “The commitment to sports tourism will have an economic impact of 10 million euros,” she recalled. In this way, she added, we manage to deseasonalize tourism in this part of the Mar Menor, but also in the establishments of La Manga.
