The president of the Regional Government of Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, today visited the Paris International Food Show (SIAL), in which the Regional Government has invested one million euros, and which will generate exports to companies in the sector. agri-food sector of the Community for more than 110 million euros.
In this edition, 60 companies participate in the stands of the regional Executive that, together with the other 10 that attend independently, make Castilla y León the Spanish community with the greatest representation.
Fernández Mañueco has highlighted the Board’s commitment to the agri-food sector of Castilla y León and the commercial strength of its industry, a strategic sector that generates 44,000 jobs. Thus, one of its strategic objectives with its participation in this event is Help companies open up to new markets.
The food sector contributes more than 20% of the industrial GDP of Castilla y León and the agri-food industry is vital to continue breaking records in exports, with 3,369 million euros. In this sense, Fernández Mañueco has highlighted that the Community is a benchmark of food excellence, with 70 quality figures and with the ‘Tierra de Sabor’ brand, which supports nearly 6,000 products.
Likewise, the Community has led exports in the month of August, and in the first eight months of 2024 it has been the second largest exporter in the entire country with 13,658 million accumulated, an increase of 15.3% year-on-year and 28 months in a row of growth.
The 60 exhibiting companies that participate in SIAL, with representation from the nine provinces, They are located in the four institutional pavilions that the regional Executive has at said fair, and make Castilla y León the autonomous community of Spain with the greatest presence in one of the most important international food fairs.
The Junta de Castilla y León has made a significant effort so that all the provinces of the Community are present at this fair, highlighting Salamanca, with 15 companies, Valladolid with 10 and León with 9. Zamora completes the list with 6, Segovia and Soria with 5, Ávila and Burgos with 4 and Palencia with 2.
By products, the greatest weight corresponds to the meat, ham and sausages sector (23 companies) followed by cheese and other dairy products (10 companies) and cookies, sweets and chocolates (6 companies), although companies in the field of mushrooms and truffles, appetizers, preserves, legumes and honey.
The president of the regional Executive has emphasized the important role played by companies in the agri-food sector in Castilla y León, which contribute to generate employment, wealth and establish population throughout the territory.
