The pre -agreement between PP and Vox to approve the budgets in the Valencian Community has caught Vox Baleares. The path of reconciliation – saved by Santiago Abascal – arrives just at the time the regional representatives in the archipelago had led … To the maximum the tension with the PP, even making a clamp with the PSOE to torpedo the government of Marga Prohens. Vox Baleares adds Catalan as a differentiating element to maintain distances with the popular ones, but the recent movements in the party inside and outside the archipelago are softening a tone that had hardened in recent months.
Santiago Abascal’s party has stressed that the agreement with Mazón is based on the fact that the PP has rejected the European green pact and the distribution of immigrant minors proposed by the Government of Pedro Sánchez. However, in the Balearic Islands, there is already coincidence in these two aspects for a long time. Not surprisingly, Prohens insisted from the first moment that the archipelago cannot host more minors because he is well above his capacity with those he already receives in Pateras from Algeria. And, on the other hand, the Balearic president already showed in February her rejection of the Green Pact for her effects for the Balearic farmers.
Therefore, Vox Baleares has needed to add one more argument to maintain the tension between both formations: Catalan. Those of Santiago Abascal now claim to modify the regulations for education and for public function, with the aim of introducing more Castilian and demanding less Catalan to access a work in the public administration.
The July 2023 investiture pact between both formations crystallized at the beginning of the legislature in a voluntary pilot plan to expand the hours of Spanish and the implementation of the free choice of language in first teaching, in addition to the suppression of the Catalan requirement to doctors. All this has been fulfilled, but now the PP is not willing to go further in education because it does not want to activate a clearly demobilized `Green tide ‘. Vox reproaches his “fear of the street.” In the case of the public function, there is more margin agree because although the popular ones will not leave Catalan as merit instead of as a requirement, they may accept it in some cases.
“Show a path”
The Catalan has also served Vox Baleares to maintain the guy after a week that has reactivated his intense internal discrepancies and has left his representatives in the Balearic Parliament. The Valencian Community agreement caught them by surprise, as the deputy Sergio Rodríguez acknowledged, who stressed that the Mazón Pact “shows a path.”
Now the bamboo script turn supports a sector of the party that rule comfortably with the PP in institutions such as the Consell de Mallorca or the City Council of Palma, and that internally claims that the tension is reduced and that the more or less solid agreements are maintained with the Prohens government, which, on the other hand, tries to present difficult legislative proposals to lie down by a party as Vox.
The agreement in Valencia reinforces the most conciliatory sector with the PP and aggravates internal discrepancies in the archipelago
The popular executive, for example, has just submitted a decree law – which has been negotiating with Vox for some time, although without agreement closed before going to Parliament – which will allow to expedite the construction of 20,000 homes in Palma. The Vox spokeswoman in the regional Parliament, Manuela Cañadas, quickly said they were going to vote against, but her spokesman in the Balearic capital, the former Jemad Fulgencio Coll, has applauded the proposal of the PP unambiguously.
Prohens tries to convey an image of normality, continue governing with extended budgets and present initiatives of this type. In addition, the Balearic president has the approval of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who, as ABC reported this Sunday, has given the Planet to regional governments to reach Budgetary agreements with Vox.
The agreement between Mazón and the rightists also agreed with the days when the Abascal Party in the Balearic Islands gave a surprising twist in the voltage strategy with the PP making a clamp with the PSOE. Vox allied with the left to approve PSOE motions that can block four hundred million and stop the projects financed with the ‘ecotasa’ while the budget extension lasts. In this way, Vox Baleares crossed an unprecedented line in other regions, while the socialists forgot about the sanitary cord that defend in public and relied on what they call “extreme right” to launch a missile to the governance of the Prohens Executive.
Catalan is an added difficulty in the islands because Vox insists that his demand for access to public employment should be limited
The prehistory of this unusual covenant dates back to June 2024, when Francina Armengol’s strong man in the islands, Iago Negueruela, and Vox spokeswoman in the Balearic Parliament, Manuela Cañadas, let themselves photograph themselves drinking coffee in a central palm bar. That was taken as an anecdote, a photo taken “a betrayal” – according to Vox spokeswoman and socialist former militant – that was not at least in public.
Less than a month later, Abascal unleashed the hostilities against the PP and ordered to liquidate all the government pacts, including that of the Balearic Islands, the only community where the PP ruled alone without having a majority since the beginning of the legislature. Despite bamboo orders, nothing changed in other institutions of the islands, such as the Consell de Mallorca or the two most populated municipalities, Palma and Calviá, among others. Even the relations between the Executive of Prohens and the deputies of Vox in the Parliament were quickly redirected and everything indicated that there would be agreement to carry out the budgets of 2025.
But at the last minute, conservative training hardened its requests, repeating the 2023 strategy, when the expense ceiling knocked by surprise and was about to leave the popular without their first budgets. This second time Prohens did not yield and decided to extend his accounts. However, in that same month of December, he had to agree with the left to maintain the Law of Historical Memory to move forward a decree law that corrected the maximalist amendments of Vox that eliminated the Catalan for the officials or massively liberalized the soil, and that the Parliament had approved by an error of the popular deputy Marga Durán at the time of indicating the vote.
The year 2025 began with serious doubts about the governance of the Balearic Islands, because the popular executive needs extra votes to approve its proposals in the Autonomous Chamber. The PP has twenty -five deputies and has the support of the representative of Formentera and one of Vox’s escapees, Xisco Cardona. The other, Agustín Buades, has also approached the popular after his march. But Prohens must reach a majority of 30 seats, so he needs the six deputies that Vox retains, who at the moment maintain their vote unit despite their serious internal dissensions. Thus, the Popular Executive can look in Sánchez’s mirror, learning to live with extended budgets and agreing what you can with who can, or look for a new budget pact, only with Vox, discarded the left.
