The operator of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 has filed for bankruptcy. This is reported TASS with reference to Swiss television.
Earlier, Reuters reported that Nord Stream 2 AG was considering bankruptcy, citing sources familiar with the situation.
The interlocutors of the publication said that Nord Stream 2 AG worked with financial advisers to clarify the issues of its obligations and to be able to formally launch insolvency proceedings in a court in Switzerland this week. Gazprom declined to comment.
German Economy Minister Robert Habek said that Nord Stream 2 would not be certified in the foreseeable future. “Now it is not visible that Nord Stream 2 would have received permission in any foreseeable time,” he announced.
Last year, work on the project, estimated at $11 billion, was completed. Nord Stream 2 was supposed to increase the capacity to supply Russian gas to Germany.
