The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stated on its Twitter account that an Israeli bombardment targeted the vicinity of Aleppo Airport and warehouses near the airport.
It was reported earlier that 4 unknown explosions rocked the north and northwest of Syria.
For its part, the official Syrian news agency, SANA, stated in a brief report on its website, that the Israeli warplanes launched a missile strike on Aleppo International Airport at around eight in the evening local time, which led to material damage to the airport.
It had previously stated that “explosions were heard in the sky of Aleppo, and their nature is being investigated.”
This bombing represents the 22nd strike carried out by Tel Aviv in Syria since the beginning of 2022.
The last Israeli strike in Syria was last week, when missile strikes targeted sites in the vicinity of the cities of Hama and Tartus in western Syria.
While Syrian official sources said that “the air defenses shot down most of the Israeli missiles”, with limited material losses, the Syrian opposition Observatory and Western sources spoke of massive destruction and the destruction of hundreds of medium-range missiles in the strike.
For years, Israel has carried out military strikes in Syria, and is silent about it, neither confirming nor denying its connection to it.
It was extremely rare the times that Tel Aviv openly announced the implementation of strikes in Syria.
Israel fears what it says is the positioning of Iran and its militias in Syria, especially in the south.
This may explain that the majority of air strikes since the beginning of 2022 were concentrated in the vicinity of Damascus.
