Last March the new reboot of Alone in the Dark. At the time, critical reception was mixed, with most reviews noting that there are good ideas here, but the execution left much to be desired. Now, Embracer Group has indicated that sales goals for this title were not met.
According to its most recent financial report, Embracer Group revealed that the new Alone in the Darkas well as Outcast: A New Beginning, They were not able to reach the sales expectations they had for this project. Although no specific details were shared, SteamBD revealed that Alone in the Dark’s peak player count was just 1,628.
This information comes to us a month after it was announced that Embracer Group had fired a large number of its employees. However, it is not all bad news, as the company has also revealed that Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection and South Park: Snow Day! managed to meet their sales goalseven when these last two titles suffered from mixed or poor reception.
Regarding the future of Embracer Group, at the end of 2024 it will be available Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, from which sales similar to those of Dead Island 2. Along with this, they are also at the door Killing Floor 3, Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, Hyperlight Breaker, Gothic Remake, Titan Quest 2, as well as three other “major unannounced releases.”
In total, more than 70 games are expected to be released during the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025. Going back to the failure of Alone in the Dark, It is very likely that this will cause the series to be frozen again, or even Embracer Group no longer intends to give it a new chance.. It is a shame that properties so important to the environment fall into the hands of teams that do not know how to manage them properly. Although the new Alone in the Dark It has its merits, it is not the experience that many expected and, as a result, it was a commercial failure.
