The Neus Català Foundation makes its file available to teachers to stop hate speeches among young people

The Neus Català Foundation opens its extensive archive to make it available to the educational community, with the objective that teachers and educators of all kinds have resources to combat hate discourse among young people. With this idea, the entity has presented this Saturday in Barcelona the April project, a website (PROJECTABRIL.CAT) with 70 pedagogical materials that try to promote an education in democratic and anti -fascist values.

Both the director of the Foundation, Ricard Ribera, and the project coordinator, Nora Sánchez Oussedik, have highlighted the growing concern for the extension of hate speeches among the youngest layers of society, so they have called to make a “common front” but without being “alarmists or pessimists.”

The objective of the April Project, as they have explained, is to contribute to “stop the expansion of hate speeches, discriminatory behaviors and sympathies towards the extreme right among young people.” The materials, elaborated from the Historical Archive of the Foundation, are aimed at both the educational community – from teachers to associations of families, monitors of burrows and esplais or technicians of youth and culture, among others – and to young people between 12 and 18 years.

The Foundation also contemplates the creation of a democratic education program, “aligned with the new basic education curriculum”, and a pilot plan to “accompany the centers in the work of rethinking and systematizing their educational action in democratic key.”

The Pedagogical Resources Bank and the project as a whole have the support of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Barcelona City Council, the Diputación de Barcelona and Memorial Democàtic. The presentation was attended by Pepín Beltran, Secretary of Educational Improvement, Gina Pol, Secretary of Equality of the Department of Equality and Feminism, and Noa Monràs, General Director for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights.

The Neus Català Foundation, born in the year 2023 after the fusion of two previous entities and promoted by Communishes of Catalonia and Esquerra Unida I Alternative, seeks to preserve the legacy of the communist militant and survivor of the Nazi concentration camp of Ravensbrück, who died in 2019. The entity has launched this year various activities, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the fields Nazis arrangement.
