After learning of a new case of a public office of the PSOE vaccinated against Covid-19, bypassing the protocols of the authorities, specifically that of the mayor Rogelio Garcés, first mayor of the Aragonese town of Asín, the national leadership of the party decided this Friday request the resignation of their public positions that have benefited from their position to receive the vaccine early.
As explained in a statement, “The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party does not allow this type of unsupportive attitude. It reiterates its militants and especially its public officials and representatives in the institutions to set an example and not shame an acronym with more than 140 years of history, which have always defended the common good over individual interests. This type of reprehensible attitudes are very far from what our acronyms mean ».
This decision comes just one day after the secretary general of the PSRM and socialist spokesman in the Regional Assembly, Diego Conesa, decided provisionally suspend the militancy of the mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero, after learning that the coronavirus vaccine had been administered, although did not ask for his resignation. However, when asked if he should resign, Conesa did not want to comment.
This Friday, in the program ‘Hoy por hoy’ of Cadena Ser, the secretary general of the PSRM avoided comparing Clavero’s case with that of the Minister of Health, Manuel Villegas, who resigned on Wednesday due to the pressure received after being vaccinated. According to the leader of the regional PSOE, «the need for the resignation of a director is not the same situation, who was handpicked by the regional president, to that of a mayoress chosen in an election “and noted the importance of “maintaining your project”, because his party “is tremendously respectful of the institutions, its local groups and its municipal groups.”
