The National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals organized a new round of the “Sustainability Journeys” campaign, which was launched last year, as part of the initiatives supporting the directions of the “Year of Sustainability,” announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, under the slogan “Today For Tomorrow,” as part of the UAE government’s efforts to enhance societal awareness of sustainability and the importance of achieving it, and to support the country’s achievements and successes in the 17 global goals to ensure the prosperity and quality of life of society.
This year, the National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals launched a new campaign of “Sustainability Journeys”, to enhance community awareness, in partnership with “Furjan Dubai”, “Careem Bike” and “Carrefour”, in Al Khawaneej Promenade in Dubai, in which representatives of “Careem Bike” and “Careem Bike” participated. Carrefour, members of the National Committee, and a number of members of the UAE community, where Careem Bike provided free bicycles to the participants, while Carrefour provided environmentally friendly gifts.
Assistant Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange and Chairman of the National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals, Abdullah Nasser Lootah, said: “The campaign embodies the UAE government’s approach to motivating members of society to adopt a sustainable lifestyle, which contributes to building a better world for future generations.”
He added, “The National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals seeks to build effective long-term partnerships with voluntary community institutions working in the country to advance the achievement of sustainable development goals in the UAE and the world.”
For her part, the Founder and Director General of the “Furjan Dubai” Foundation, Alia Al-Shamlan, expressed the Foundation’s pride in participating in the “Sustainability Journeys” campaign, stressing the keenness of “Furjan Dubai”, since its inauguration in 2021, to contribute effectively and enhance human and social communication among members of the UAE community. In initiatives supporting sustainability.
In turn, Senior Director of Careem Bike Operations, Sami Amin, said: “We are pleased to contribute to the initiatives of the Year of Sustainability, and to enhance the public’s experience on (sustainability trips), by providing free bicycles from (Careem), which has contributed since its launch in February 2020 to Reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 3,750 tons, which is equivalent to the emissions of 1,051 vehicles throughout the year, which supports achieving the sustainable development goals, especially the seventh goal, which ensures access to clean energy at affordable prices.” He added: “Careem Bike was launched in 2020 and has become the largest bicycle sharing program in the region, with more than 217 bicycle parking stations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The service has become the preferred choice for sustainable transportation and entertainment among residents and tourists, thanks to the appropriate service cost and ease of access.” to her”.
